Somerset Park House

This project transforms a mid-seventies single-family home in Northglen, Oshawa, into a modern, energy-efficient residence that embraces its serene ravine setting. Initially a renovation, the design evolved into a new build that enhances natural light and connections to the outdoors. Key features include increased floor-to-ceiling heights and the use of closed-cell spray foam insulation for improved energy efficiency. A central opening links the upper and lower levels, highlighted by two large solar-powered venting skylights, while an open-concept layout integrates a contemporary kitchen, living area, and dining space, all oriented toward expansive park views.

The exterior design complements the natural landscape with extensive decking and outdoor living spaces, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas. Sustainable elements such as strategically placed operable windows and additional skylights reduce reliance on artificial lighting and promote cross-ventilation.

The transformation of The Somerset Park House exemplifies a commitment to ecological principles and environmental stewardship, resulting in bright, functional spaces that enhance the residents’ connection to their surroundings while offering a harmonious living experience.
