    Single Family Residence

This project entails the redevelopment of a modest, single family residence in the post-industrial Toronto neighbourhood of Davenport Park for a growing family. Working within the considerable constraints of an extremely narrow lot with only a fifteen foot frontage, the design adopts an open plan approach to maximize space, add new functionality to living spaces and take advantage of a north-south orientation to harness the ecological benefits of natural lighting and cross-ventilation to virtually all rooms.

A double storey space above the living area opens up to adjacent rooms and the hallway on the second floor, expanding the perception of space and further bringing in more light through a second floor central skylight. A self-contained third storey master suite addition with an outdoor deck completes the composition with a skylight above the closet and dressing areas. The dynamic massing and modern approach is a deliberate departure from the existing and sets a new, fresh direction for future developments in this historically depressed neighbourhood.
